International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
Library
This Covenant was signed in 1966 and has since been ratified by 148 UN Member States. Each of these countries agreed to do as much as its available resources permitted to ensure that these rights were progressively applied. Article 11 defines the right to adequate food as "a fundamental right of everyone to be free from hunger". So countries must help improve methods of food production, conservation and distribution, and ensure most equitable distribution throughout the world.
