Introductory session on the TEI OP-VET and the OP-VET approach
This introductory session presents the Team Europe Initiative on Opportunity-driven Skills and Vocational Education and Training in Africa (TEI OP-VET) and explains the core ideas behind the OP-VET approach. In 16 minutes, it clearly defines what opportunity-driven VET is, what it aims to achieve, and how it differs from more traditional skills and training approaches.
The session highlights the advantages of OP-VET, starting from concrete employment opportunities and labour-market demand, and placing the private sector at the centre of skills development. It illustrates how training programmes are designed in close cooperation with employers to respond to real jobs, support decent employment, and strengthen local value chains.
A practical example from Senegal shows how the approach is applied in practice, from identifying employment opportunities to delivering relevant training and linking learners to jobs. The module is intended for practitioners, project teams and stakeholders interested in understanding how opportunity-driven VET can contribute to employment creation and sustainable economic development.
