March 2012 Mission report Kenya

Monitoring mission to IFRC/Kenya RC cholera prevention and assistance to new Somali refugees. Activities at the time of monitoring were mainly focusing on cholera management in Dadaab and emergency assistance to refugees along the Kenya/Somali borded.With the prevailing security situation, those areas were not visited. Activities in the visited area (Isiolo) were only launched recently.

KRC focused its cholera prevention strategy on training of RC volunteers, Community led total sanitation and school health promotion (PHAST and PHASTER methodology). While the RC volunteers are an important asset in cholera prevention and control activities, a better alignment with the Kenyan Community Health Program needs to be assured.
