Monitoring the voluntary guidelines on the responsible governance of tenure of land, fisheries and forests

This study is intended to contribute to the effective implementation of the FAO Voluntary Guidelines by exploring ways of monitoring the governance of tenure of land, fisheries and forests. It provides an mapping of existing and commonly used monitoring systems and practices in relation to the tenure of land, fisheries and forests by civil society organisations and institutions. It further presents some illustrative examples of civil society monitoring initiatives and identifies some characteristics of monitoring carried out by CSOs. Based on this information, some recommendations are elaborated on what to monitor and how to do it.
