In his peer review of this document, Tilman Altenburg of the German Development Institute had this to say:
"This is a very comprehensive guide for value chain practitioners. With its focus on decent work, it is distinct from other existing manuals. It is well written and easy to understand, provides numerous practical examples and a number of very illustrative charts."
He is correct. This document is a good guide to developing value chains, but its true benefit is from the fact that it puts value chain development in the context of decent work and the informal economy, recognising that when value chains are developed, these considerations must be taken into account.
