A Practicioner's Guide to Green Development in Developing Countries - ILO - (2011)
This guide is made for practicioners, people who work directly in project planning and implementation. It emphasizes that there must be changes made to the commonly-accepted model of development: It is not able to consistently succeed in improving quality of life for beneficiaries, and it makes little to no considerations for the environmental impact of project activities. To be honest, they're probably right. After all, there's no thematic category for the environment on this website! To solve both of these problems, the authors of this document suggest a new model: Projects should consider creating 'Green Jobs', where beneficiaries are not only given economic empowerment, but also are helping the environment, or at the very least no longer damaging it. This document is particularly valuable in that it gives much of its time to analyze how the informal economy can be formalised in a environmentally-beneficial fashion. It's worth a read.
