Since 2004, the "Progress for Children" series has published data and analyses on how well the world is doing in meeting its commitments for the Millennium Development Goals. The first part of the document looks particularly at the first goal. It is a statistical view of how much progress has been made for this goal in developing countries since 1990. The study shows that one of the factors studied, the incidence of underweight children under 5, has decreased by nearly 20% in developing countries, but this is still well below the goal. Moreover, the risk of being underweight for children under 5 in rural areas is twice as high as in urban areas.
