The 2023 Deyr floods, intensified by El Niño, displaced 1.2 million people in Somalia and caused USD 193.4 million in damages. With UNDP, EU and World Bank support, the Somali Government led a nationally-owned post-disaster needs assessment and launched a national recovery programme — a transformative shift in post-crisis governance.
