Technical Resource Series 3: Towards a Common Understanding of REDD+ under the UNFCCC

The UN-REDD Programme is the United Nations Collaborative Initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries. Launched in 2008, it builds on the convening role and technical expertise of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment). The UN-REDD Programme supports nationally led REDD+ processes and promotes the informed and meaningful involvement of all stakeholders, including indigenous peoples and other forest-dependent communities, in national and international REDD+ implementation.

With reference to this publication, REDD+ practitioners may benefit from a common understanding of the content and potential implications of the UNFCCC decisions on REDD+ to improve country implementation of the REDD+ process. This technical resource document is aimed at REDD+ practitioners and has two main objectives; to summarize the REDD+ decisions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), as well as to foster a common understanding of the REDD+ decisions under the UNFCCC.
