Titling Ancestral Territories in the Honduran Muskitia

The Honduran Muskitia is undergoing a process of indigenous land titling without precedent in the country. At the end of the process, the indigenous territorial space in northeastern Honduras could cover nearly 14% of the national area. In terms of changes in the structure of land tenure in the country, it is the most significant development since the agrarian reform of the second half of the last century made. This process has a strong political significance, and its implications will be felt in multiple areas and levels of national society. This Information Brief explores some of these implications, including for the REDD+ and FLEGT-VPA processes.
