Under the SUN: Tracking progress of the Scaling Up Nutrition Mouvement in Bangladesh and Niger
Launched in 2010, the SUN Mouvement has been endorsed by more than 100 organisations from governments, civil society, development agencies, UN organizations, academia, research institutions and private sector. A SUN roadmap has been established in 2011. It features recommendations for all SUN stakeholders on how to ensure sustained improvements in nutrition in the highest burden countries. This report provides an evaluation on progress made for the SUN implementation in Bangladesh and Niger. The two countries were selected because they are both SUN ‘early risers' and they are both recognised as countries where significant progress has been achieved in recent years in scaling up nutrition interventions. Drawing lessons from both experiences, this report produces a number of analysis and recommendations which are expected to feed into the September 2012 SUN Mouvement annual meeting. This report is structured in three sections. The first and second sections present the two country case studies. The third section presents the general findings of the research, highlighting key issues and challenges. It includes seven key recommendations to be considered in the preparation of the new SUN strategy.
The SUN must deliver at country level:
- Clarifying and formalising the articulation between SUN and other international initiatives
 - Making CSO platforms effective and operational
 - Clarifying plans on platforms
 - Defining what "nutrition-sensitive" interventions should look like
 - Meeting the expectations created around the mobilization of resources
 - Monitoring, evaluation and accountability
