Workstream on Information Integrity on Climate Change and Other Environmental Issues
The workshop report summarises discussions on how disinformation and misinformation affect humanitarian action in crisis contexts, showing that false information is now a major operational challenge for aid organisations. Participants highlighted that information manipulation—spread by both state and non-state actors through social media, radio, and community networks—can undermine trust, restrict humanitarian access, and put affected populations and aid workers at risk. The report stresses that addressing this problem requires a multidisciplinary approach, combining stronger monitoring of information ecosystems, closer collaboration with local media, improved communication strategies, and investment in media literacy. A key takeaway is that accurate, trusted information is essential for effective humanitarian response and protection of communities in crisis settings.
