I have over 25 years of professional experience in the field of environment and climate change. I act as a senior Expert-Consultant for international donors (e.g., World Bank, EBRD, EIB, AFD, UNDP, UNIDO, UN Environment, GGGI, GIZ, European Commission, etc.), public sector and private companies. I delivers various strategic and technical climate advisory services from policy formulation to mitigation planning, carbon market development, strengthening of transparency frameworks, green finance and capacity building in different MENA and African countries.
I started my professional carrier in 1998 in Canada as an Environmental Project Manager and worked for different international consulting engineering firms, such as Dessau, HDS Environment, Trow Consulting Engineers and Veolia Environmental Services. I served clients from the private sector, in particular the industrial sector (oil companies, petrochemical, mining, etc.), financial institutions (banks, insurance companies), institutional clients (municipalities, ministries, government agencies, etc.) and also international law firms.
Since 2009, my work has been more focused on climate change issues. I have led since various multi-stakeholder’s consultative processes to develop climate policy documents, such as NDCs, NAMAs, subnational Climate Plans and governance frameworks (e.g., climate policy governance or transparency governance).
I have been also involved in the development of carbon market projects, for instance within the framework of a GIZ MENA project (2011-2014) that led to the registration of a wind power PoA, support to the involvement of Morocco’s in the World Bank’s flagship programme “Partnership for Market Readiness”, and recently, supporting a Royal Foundation in Morocco in reforming its carbon offsetting mechanism in line with international standards (e.g., Verra, GS, CDM).
I am also extensively involved in the formulation of projects to seek international green finance from GEF, GCF, NAMA Facility and German Government (BMZ and BMU). He provides assistance to Direct Access Entities in their quest for accreditation to the GCF, development of project concept notes and funding proposals and capacity building.
Through these assignments, I was able to cover most climate relevant sectors, such as energy, transport, buildings, waste management, industry, agriculture, forestry, water, health and fishery.
I hold a Ph.D. degree from McGill University and had followed a training on Project Management (an essential training to obtain a Project management Professional accreditation). I have been certified in 2005 by the Canadian Federal Ministry of Environment to verify and validate GHG projects, in 2015 as a Certified Trainer regarding GCF Environmental and Social Safeguards by GIZ-GCF-WRI and in 2019/2021 as a Certified Trainer for Climate Finance (CliFit Training) by GIZ-Adelphi.
