The outcomes of the full day consultation session on water in the post-2015 development agenda, on 29 January 2013, were presented the following day by Bai Mass Taal, executive secretary of AMCOW, to the UN Secretary General’s High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the post 2015 development agenda at their meeting in Monrovia, Liberia. |
The “Draft Monrovia water sector declaration to the HLP” (download below) departed from the lessons learnt during the process of working towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), then bridging over to arguments for including water (referring to water, sanitation and hygiene; water as a prerequisite for food and energy security; water in relation to climate change etc) in the next global development framework.
The consultation session on the 29 January was convened by the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) as the Specialized Technical Committee on Water and Sanitation to the African Union and hosted by the Government of Liberia. Co-conveners of the consultations were the Government of the Netherlands, the European Union Water Initiative – Africa Working Group (EUWI-AWG), Global Water Partnership (GWP), UN-WATER Africa, UNICEF, Water Aid and Water and Sanitation for Africa (WSA).
