AI Essentials for Young People with a Green Future: building digital and green skills in Bolivia

From 15 June to 24 July 2026, the “AI Essentials for Young People with a Green Future” programme brought together young people from Cobija, Llallagua and Viacha, alongside a virtual cohort, to strengthen their digital skills and explore the connection between artificial intelligence, employability, entrepreneurship and sustainability.

The initiative attracted 299 applicants, and 134 young people successfully completed the training programme, with women representing 60.4% of graduates.

Over five learning sessions, participants explored the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence, AI tools for education and productivity, employability and green entrepreneurship, and responsible innovation.

Using tools such as ChatGPT, Canva, and Gamma, participants applied AI to practical challenges ranging from professional development to designing and communicating sustainable ideas.

Sustainability was a cross-cutting component of the programme. Participants explored the environmental impact of artificial intelligence, digital carbon footprints, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), green digital tools, purpose-driven marketing, and environmental, social and digital impact indicators.

Turning knowledge into solutions

As a final challenge, each participant developed an “AI Verde – Soluciones Digitales Sostenibles” project, applying artificial intelligence and digital tools to an environmental or social challenge relevant to their context.

This resulted in 134 final projects. In addition, 99.3% of participants reported that the experience helped them understand how technology can contribute to sustainability.

CAINCO coordinated the implementation of the programme, while ConexiónLab supported logistics and technological infrastructure for the in-person sessions, including connectivity and technological devices in locations facing connectivity limitations.

Through initiatives such as AI Essentials for Young People with a Green Future, the EU-LAC Social Accelerator contributes to strengthening the skills young people need to participate in a more inclusive, digital, and sustainable future.
