CTA to co-host Sustainable Agriculture Session in the Private Sector Partnerships Forum in Apia, Samoa 30-31 August 2014-3rd International Conference on SIDS

CTA in partnership withthe UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) will organize a Private Sector Partnerships Forum in Apia, Samoa 30-31 August 2014 in the context of the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States 1-4 September 2014.
The overarching theme of the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States is “The sustainable development of small island developing States through genuine and durable partnerships“ and will seek to achieve the following objectives:
a. assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation
b. seek a renewed political commitment by focusing on practical and pragmatic actions for further implementation
c. identify new and emerging challenges and opportunities for the sustainable development of SIDS and means of addressing them
d. identify priorities for the sustainable development of SIDS to be considered in the elaboration of the post-2015 UN development agenda
Programme: Session 3 – Sustainable Agriculture
Introduction by the Moderator, Mr. Michael Hailu, Director, Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) SIDS are a bedrock of cultural and economic activities. With the growth of the international trade in organic agricultural products, private sector partners are in a prime position to reinvigorate agricultural production in SIDS, contribute to the livelihoods of rural communities and increase the export earnings.
