Data collection training for community volunteers
News details

May 2018
As project implementation accelerates, more emphasis is being placed on mobilising community volunteers to collect data within their chiefdoms. Training is provided by project enumerators, who with their training and experience, are passing on their skills to future community land adminstrators.
Data collection uses tablet computers, with which younger community members are particularly adept. One day of training and they are able to start work by systematically visiting each homestead in the chiefdom to ask respondents, usually senior family members, questions about themsleves and their spouse(s), when they were allocated the land, by which umphakatsi (chiefdom), where and how many fields they have and for what use, if there are any disputes and with who, and if they lend out or borrow land from others, among other questions.
