Digital Games for Global Citizenship Education
News details
Do you want to include meaningful digital games in your project? Award-winning “Impact Games” take on the challenge to address the dismissal of climate change, poverty, hunger and other urgent and global crises. Why are people combative towards aid to the weak and those seeking refuge from war? Perhaps they simply lack direct experience with these crises or contact to people who have suffered from them.
“Impact Games”, an NGO startup, provides such experiences. “Aaron’s Dilemma”, for example, portrays a Syrian refugee who fled civil conflict which began in 2011. Aaron is a hardworking, clever and ambitious Syrian medical student. An orphan, Aaron´s older brother worked abroad to help pay for his studies to become a doctor. Then, one day, everything changed… Inspired by true stories, the game has been used in 100+ schools in Slovakia and played by over 10 000 people all over the world.
Awarded the Quality in Global Education Award from GENE, “Aaron’s Dillema” is available and free in the App Store, Google Play and on itch.io. Development of the game was funded by SlovakAid, UNHCR, Slovak Ministry of Education, Slovak Ministry of Justice, Slovak Arts Council and by an EC DEAR subgrant.
