First TED Country Engagement Carried Out: Support to Uganda EUD
News details
The TED Secretariat carried out its first TED country engagement mission in Uganda in March. Uganda was identified as a TED partner country by the TED Steering Committee in February 2023.
The objective of the mission was to provide support to the Delegation of the European Union to Uganda (EUD) in identifying mechanisms of collaboration and alignment among EU Member States and EU Delegations around democracy support in Uganda. As such, the TED Secretariat provided technical support in the drafting of the Action Document for a planned action on advancing governance and accountability in Uganda.
For this endeavour, the TED Secretariat mobilised two senior democracy support experts who elaborated technical thematic inputs and held consultations with key stakeholders in Uganda. The experts also gathered relevant information for the formulation exercise and drafted relevant sections of the Action Document including objectives, expected results, intervention logic and some activities.
The TED Secretariat and two experts held several bilateral meetings with key relevant stakeholders in the sector, including government representatives, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Member States representatives and the relevant Member State agencies representatives. The inputs of the consultations, as well as the comments of the TED Secretariat, DG INTPA, EUD Uganda and selected Member States, will feed into the final document.
According to Ms. Marie-Alexandra Kurth, Team Leader of the TED Secretariat, this first mission has provided deeper insight into TED’s long-term engagement in Uganda. The Secretariat is looking forward to continued successful cooperation with the Uganda EUD.
