Supporting ACP countries to fight climate change

The Intra-ACP Global Climate Change Alliance+ (GCCA+) Programme an initiative of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States funded by the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on climate change, was launched during a Side Event at COP23 in Bonn, Germany last week. It specifically targets ACP Member States, helping them to better tackle climate change as a challenge to their development. As part of this programme, which is managed by the ACP Secretariat in Brussels, the Climate Support Facility provides demand-driven technical assistance to ACP countries and regions.

What can you get technical assistance for?

The technical assistance must relate to the Programme’s objectives and priority areas. Intervention areas notably include:

  • Climate change mainstreaming in policies, strategies and plans
  • Implementation of nationally determined contributions (NDCs)
  • Access to climate finance
  • Replication, scaling up and mainstreaming of successful adaptation and mitigation practices
  • Generally, areas that incorporate the climate change and the sustainable development agendas

Examples of technical assistance work from the Intra-ACP GCCA Programme (2011-2016) include:

  • Review of the National Land-Use Policy of the Dominican Republic to integrate climate change aspects and vulnerability risks
  • Preparation of a roadmap for starting up a REDD+ programme in Ivory Coast
  • Training of trainers on mainstreaming climate change into development planning in West Africa
  • Development of a new website, knowledge-sharing platform and instructional videos on climate-resilient practices for resilient livelihoods in Pemba, Tanzania

Who can apply for support?

Support in the form of short-term expertise is open to regional organisations, government bodies, and non-state actors such as cities/municipalities, universities, research institutions and civil society organisations in ACP countries.

How to access this support?
