Brussels, May 2019 – Senior Cooperation Officers from EU Delegations worldwide as well as NEAR and DEVCO Headquarter staff came to Brussels from 13 – 17 May for the EU Cooperation Days, considering practical measure to address this year’s theme of delivering what we promised and preparing for the future.

Media4Democracy joined the conference’s first day to showcase activities and discuss with participants the ways technical assistance to enhance EU Delegations’ support for freedom of expression and media pluralism are directly linked to achieving the EU cooperation stated objectives.

Director General for International Cooperation and Development Stefano Manservisi and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker joined the first day providing broad views of global trends to 2030 that will challenge EU cooperation efforts and effect the future work of EU Delegations.

Within this context, Media4Democracy discussed with EU Delegation representatives how responsive actions might be taken to confront current trends such as increasing risks to journalists and pressure on independent media, as well as work to undertake in environments in democratic transition.
