The DEAR #MindChangersProject welcomed its sub-granted Piedmonte projects for the “Youth and 2030 Agenda” at its start-up seminar in December 2021. The key topic was how to shift from awareness to active youth engagement, highlighting trending issues for youth participation: 1) Youthfulness, 2) Volunteering, 3) Moral value, 4) Community and 5) Organization - according to Google Trends.

The 11 sub-granted projects described their innovative tools: educational games, escape rooms, podcasts, local radio, as well as theoretical frameworks such as the “circular neighbourhood” and the ´Doughnut Economy´. They are aiming to reach the “Multiplier Level”: to have participants act independently and promote the causes among peers. Interestingly, a workshop survey showed that a majority (7 of 10) opt for an active top-down approach to motivate participation, rather than a more reactive response to the needs that emerge among the participants.

Many face the same challenges:

  • Establishing direct dialogue between young people and Local Authorities
  • Reaching different groups of young people, rather than always the same people
  • Avoiding overlapping activities in the same city
  • Keeping young people engaged throughout the year 2022 and beyond
  • Linking activities in Italy with those in third partner countries.

The program foresees three face-to-face and three online capacity building workshops in the coming months, also involving associations and LAs who are interested in the next round of sub-granting

Background:

Mindchangers has funded 54 projects on Migration, Climate Change and Sustainable Development in six regions: in Piemonte (IT), Baden-Württemberg (DE), Auvergne Rhone Alpes (FR), La Rioja (ES), Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (BE), Dolj county (RO). In addition to on-going sub-granting, Mindchangers engages in research and capacity building and is planning a pan-European communication campaign.
