November 10-12, 2020, GRET and CIRAD together with their 25 partners successfully launched the ASSET (Agroecological and Safe food System Transitions in Southeast Asia) project with the support from the European Union and the French development agency (AFD).

The workshop was held over three days with online plenary presentations and Q&A in the afternoon (Asian time), and discussions in working groups in the morning (Asian time) in Lao PDR and in Vietnam. Due to the Covid situation, the working groups in Cambodia and Myanmar had to be rescheduled and will be held by mid-December. Over 130 participants attended the event online for the first afternoon open session during which the main features of the ASSET project were presented and more 20 people gathered both in Lao PDR and in Vietnam.

During the workshop, representatives of Vietnamese, Lao PDR, Cambodian, Myanmar, European and international research organizations, United Nations agencies, and NGOs partners to the project could exchange views and ideas about how to successfully implement the ASSET project, with specific focus on the potential flagship territories in which the project will support and learn from agroecological and safe food system innovations and on the common methodological framework.
