Old Harbour Comprehensive Health Centre Now 94% Complete

The new Old Harbour Comprehensive Health Centre is 94% complete and remains on course to begin phased operations in the final quarter of 2026.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr the Hon Christopher Tufton, toured the East Street facility on July 28 with other key stakeholders and expressed satisfaction with the progress. He told JIS and other media that “the building is complete, the internals are substantially in”, with landscaping and parking among the outstanding items.

The 2,000-square-metre facility will replace the existing Type 3 centre, which has outgrown its space, and will be equipped to serve up to 10,000 patients per month. It will offer a wide range of primary healthcare services, including specialist clinics, pharmacy, laboratory, ECG, phlebotomy, X-ray, physiotherapy, and screenings for ophthalmology and audiometry, along with dedicated sections for dentistry, mental health, and maternal and child health.

The project represents an investment of almost JMD 1 billion, covering construction, medical equipment, furniture and an on-site wastewater treatment plant. It is funded primarily through the European Union investment grant under the HSSP, and has been built with sustainability in mind, including rainwater harvesting and solar power systems.

Once construction wraps, HSSP and South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) teams will oversee retrofitting the facility with staff, furniture, modern medical tools and e-Care.

For residents, the change is straightforward. Care that once meant a trip to Spanish Town will soon be available at home.
