The DEAR project “Trade Fair, Live Fair” (TFLF) presented its work around Food and Fashion supply chains at last week’s European Commission InfoPoint lunchtime conference. Over 120 people from the European institutions, development stakeholders and beyond discussed their achievements and recommendations to mobilise people to consume in a way that nurtures the Sustainable Development Goals.

21 organizations in Fair Trade and Ethical Fashion movements, under the leadership of Fairtrade International, showcased the impact they achieved in promoting sustainable consumption and production. They showed how they measured consumer change, how to bring local campaigns to a European level and how they mobilised 1.25 million people to action. One successful experiment was creating a “fake newspaper” showing what a future with unfair trade may look like. For more information on their best practices, you can find the presentations here.

With DEAR funding, Fair Trade and Ethical Fashion movements across Europe joined forces to foster more resilient livelihoods for the producers and workers behind many of the products that European citizens consume. The three year project entailed studies, advocating and campaigning about the poverty created by the imbalances of power in supply chains.

The regular EU InfoPoint events on International Partnerships are often tied with Brussels visits of high-level development actors or yearly international days, e.g. the International Women’s Day, World Refugee Day, World Food Day etc.

If you want to organise your own InfoPoint event you can contact Bianca Baumler [bba@ice-org.eu] of the DEAR Support Team who can provide assistance. We strongly encourage it!
