On Monday 27th January 2014, UN Water released a report entitled "Securing Sustainable Water for All" which sets out their recommendations for a global goal for water in the context of the post-2015 development agenda. This paper is the result of a year-long collaboration between many UN agencies, UN Water Partners and other stakeholders.

The general objective of “Securing Sustainable Water for All” is underpinned by five targets in the areas of 1/ drinking water, sanitation and hygiene 2/water resources 3/ water governance 4/ water-related disasters and 5/wastewater pollution and water quality, which in turn have elements and indicators.

The Global Water Partnership, as a partner of UN-Water, will undertake country consultations based on the UN-Water paper “Securing Sustainable Water for All”. The purpose is to build awareness and examine the country relevance and applicability of the options and recommendations presented in the UN-Water paper on a dedicated goal for water.

The EUWI Africa Working Group is providing financial support to the consultation process in Africa. The consultations will start in February and continue until mid-2014.

See the UN-Water website for regular updates on the Water goal proposal.
