USP’s Sustainable Sea Transport Research Programme lead by Dr Peter Nuttall, Senior Research Fellow with School of Marine Studies, has been selected as a finalist for a major international shipping industry award (wind propulsion research category) sponsored by Norsepower which will be awarded at the Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology conference in Hamburg in September.  Our team are up against stiff competition from leading European universities including the University College London, University of Strathclyde and TU Delft.

The multi-disciplinary Research Programme established under USP's SRT cluster has been working to support our Pacific countries tackle the challenges of shipping at both local and international levels since 2013 and is working closely with the Marshall Islands government to develop the first ever "whole of country" transition to low carbon transport starting with shipping through the Micronesian Sustainable Transport Centre (a joint RMI/USP initiative approved by Council earlier this year) as a model for roll out to the rest of the region.

Votes close on 15 August and are open to anyone.  So please support our USP team and visit the awards link  http://wind-ship.org/en/innovation_awards_2016/ select the "vote here" button under the research category and vote for USP.
