Webinar: Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in EU international partnerships
DG INTPA F1 and F2
Event details
Description
Objectives of the course
The EU has long supported the protection, restoration, and sustainable management and use of the world’s forests. More recently, the European Commission has stepped-up this ambition towards partner countries in the context of the external dimension of the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork the Biodiversity Strategies, the Communication ‘Stepping up EU Action to Protect and Restore the World’s Forests’ as well as the legislative proposal aimed at minimising the risk of deforestation and forest degradation. Building on FLEGT VPA experiences, the DG INTPA is now expanding engagement with partner countries through Forest Partnerships.
The specific objective of this Webinar is to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of:
- the dominant forest management models, namely (a) “industrial” forest concessions and (b) community forests;
- definition, benefits and opportunities for improving the sustainability of both forest management modalities;
- the role the EU Commission in promoting sustainable forest management in partner countries – with a focus on lessons-learned and ambitions for the the 2021-2027 programming cycle.
