Comprehensive Migration Approach in the Maghreb, Sahel and West African Countries in the Atlantic/Western Mediterranean route

Transformational potential:

• To ensure that migration to the EU from priority countries in Maghreb, Sahel and West Africa countries is safe, regular, and orderly.
• Coordination with the TEI for the Central Mediterranean migration route.

The Team Europe Proposal:

Geographic coverage: Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal, The Gambia; and Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger and Nigeria.

Focus on migration management and migration governance actions, putting migrants, refugees, and their host communities.

Actions to be carried out at national, multi-country and regional levels:

1. Legal migration and mobility - enabling environment for legal migration and mobility pathways development and promotion.
2. Protection and Asylum – ensure protection, resilience, self-reliance, life-saving assistance.
3. Prevention of irregular migration, countering migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings.
4. Return, readmission and reintegration.
5. Migration and development.
