Some 2,000 development practitioners, policy makers and representatives from donor and partner countries are arriving in Busan, South Korea, for the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness that is due to kick off on the 29th November 2011.Busan Logo

Busan offers a landmark opportunity for discussion and exchange as well as the forging of new partnerships for development cooperation.

At the three day event, participants aim to:

  • Assess global progress in improving the effectiveness of aid against the agreed commitments;
  • Share global experiences in delivering the best results,
  • Agree on the future commitments to further enhance efforts globally and within countries to make aid and development more effective.

The First High Level Forum, which took place in Rome, Italy, in 2003, marked the first time that the principles for aid effectiveness were outlined in a declaration and a number of priority actions were agreed. Subsequent High Level Forums in Paris, France, in 2005 and Accra, Ghana, in 2008 have significantly shaped the aid effectiveness agenda and prioritised ownership, partnership and the delivery of results.

The European Commission is sending a team to the event, headed by the European Union Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs.

You can follow some of the team’s experiences in Busan through a special blog space they will be using throughout this week’s event, and for post-event follow-up. To join that group, follow this link: http://capacity4dev.ec.europa.eu/busan
