The 8th International Public Health Conference among Greater Mekong Sub-Region Countries was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 5th and 6th November 2016. The conference was “Moving toward the Universal Health Coverage: Strengthening Quality of Care”, and it had the following objectives:
Overall Objectives
The 8th International conference was to foster and strengthen existing international cooperation of the training and research in public health institutions among GMS countries.
Specific objectives
The specific objectives of the conference were;
1. To raise awareness about the role of Public Health in ensuring UHC for the people
2. To understand health challenges countries faced
3. To share new ideas or discoveries about strategy to improve the quality of care services
Participants from three SPHIP projects in Asia (Bangladesh - SHARE, Lao PDR - LEARN and Myanmar) and the Support Team were present at the conference.
On the sixth, the three projects and the SPHIP-ST organised a round table discussion that brought together around 40 delegates to the conference from different countries in the region.

In the round table discussion representatives from the SPHIP projects in Myanmar, Lao PDR and Bangladesh explained about the projects and discussed experiences with participants.
