Agenda Knowledge for Development
Discussion details

Presentation of the Knowledge Development Goals on 14 October 2016 by Andreas Brandner of KMA
An Agenda Knowledge for Development has been developed by an international coalition of civil society organisations, enterprises and academics, initiated and led by Knowledge Management Austria (KMA). It represents a common vision on how knowledge can contribute to and underpin the ambitions of the Sustinable Development Goals. This current version (Version 1.0) is work in progress. Version 2.0 is currently being developed and will be presented at the UN Conference 'Global Knowledge for Development' on 3-4 April 2017 at which the Inspection Report on “Knowledge Management in the UN System”, implemented by the Joint Inspection Unit of the United Nations in 2016, will be presented.
This Agenda for Knowledge Development, comprising 13 Knowledge Development Goals, is designed to complement the SDGs by providing an integrated approach to knowledge-related challenges that directly influence the achievement of the SDGs. It presents a vision of the societal and economic value of knowledge in which the transformational power of knowledge can be harnessed for the development of inclusive, pluralistic knowledge societies. It is based on the understanding that knowledge is indispensable to individuals, communities, enterprises, governments and the global community, and is thus an intrinsic part of sustainable development.
Version 1.0 was initially based on 50 statements, written by individuals with different societal and regional backgrounds. The first version was presented at the Global Knowledge for Development Summit on 14 October 2016 and it is available on the summit's website here. Any reader of this “Version 1.0” is invited to contribute by additional statements and comments. The direct link to the file is here.
