Discussion details
We are pleased to be able to tell you that the December 2015 issue of the KM4D Journal is now online at: http://journal.km4dev.org/index.php/km4dj/index As you are all aware, 2015 was an important year for international development with agreement on the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which represent a new holistic social, economic and environmental development agenda, applicable to all countries. As I briefly review in the editorial, the SDGs do not seem to recognise the key importance of knowledge to development, taking an ad hoc, instrumental view and, for example, ignoring the role of knowledge as culture. Against this background, the Austrian Knowledge for Development (K4Dev) community has launched an international initiative to draft a set of ‘Knowledge Development Goals’ which are designed to complement the new SDGs. Under this initiative, ideas and proposals put forth by a wide variety of stakeholders will be gathered, distilled and published in an ‘Agenda Knowledge for Development,’ complemented by a conference in October 2016. The ideas and experiences of members of KM4Dev could make a key contribution to this initiative and the Community Note ‘Agenda Knowledge for Development Conference, Fall 2016 in Vienna, Austria’ aims to inform you about it and to encourage your involvement. The other papers in this issue, and the work of KM4Dev more generally, testify to the importance of knowledge to international development. Vol 11, No 2 (2015)Table of ContentsEditorial
