Discussion details

Created 22 May 2015

In the framework of the European Development Days 2015, DEVCO B3 is pleased to invite you to the Lab "Transformed economies, better jobs, shared wealth. Can we do it? Challenging the call for a transformative agenda in the SDGs in the face of economic policy, theory and reality", that will take place on the 4th June at 9:30.

This high-level panel, organized by the European Commission-DEVCO B3, will discuss the real implications beyond the rhetoric of the call made in SDGs literature calling for a transformative post-2015 agenda. The questions we would like the panellists and the public to reflect upon are, the following: what is meant by transformation and what does it mean for developing countries?, what form could this transformation take in the globalised world of today, and finally, what does it mean in terms of opportunities for Decent Work and of the proposed Sustainable Development Goal 8 ‘inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all’.

For this, we will count with a very original panel of eminent speakers. They will be able to reflect along specific experiences, from the case of China -explained by a renowned Chinese economist-; to the very different reality in South-Saharan Africa -presented by Louise Fox, senior economist from the World Bank; passing through the major players in the area of employment i.e. the International Labour Organisation, represented by the Director of their Research Department Mr Moazam Mahmood,  and the Deputy General Secretaryof the International Trade Union Confederation-ITUC, Wellington Chibebe.

For more details, we invite you to read the concept note of the event that you will find in attachment.

Please note that the registration for the EDDs (obligatory also for Commission Staff!!!) is only open until the 25 May ateudevdays.eu.

Looking forward to seeing you all there"
