EU Deforestation regulation (EUDR) enters into force
Discussion details
The EU deforestation regulation entered into force on 29 June 2023. Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius @VSinkevicius tweeted "Our new law to fight global deforestation enters into force today! We take responsibility by ensuring key goods exported or placed on the EU market will be deforestation-free. A solid step to support the lungs & the livelihoods of millions of people that depend on them."
Given feedback received from international partners about their state of preparations, the Commission also proposes to give concerned parties additional time to prepare. If approved by the European Parliament and the Council, it would make the law applicable on 30 December 2025 for large companies and 30 June 2026 for micro- and small enterprises.
