Gender Briefing for EU Delegation to Tanzania and Member State Embassies
Discussion details

On 6 March, a briefing session on gender in development cooperation was held at the EU Delegation to Tanzania. The briefing was organized as a part of the partnership agreement the EU has with UN-Women and ITC-ILO, which allows the EU Delegations in selected countries to benefit from gender training and technical assistance.
The EU Head of Cooperation Eric Beaume and UN-Women representative Anna Collins-Falk started with outlining the Tanzanian policy frameworks and the work done in Tanzania so far. This includes the on-going process of drafting of the Tanzania gender profile, a process led by the Ministry of Community Development, Gender and Children of Tanzania, and supported by UN-Women, ICT-ILO and the EU. The meeting also reviewed the latest draft report to the EU Gender Action Plan, with the view to identify the targets and indicators that need more work from EUD staff; the ITC-ILO gender specialist Blerina Vila complemented this review with methodological input on the correct use of the OECD gender marker.
The session was well attended with colleagues from all the sections of the EU Delegation to Tanzania, NAO, and some member states, including Belgium, Denmark and Ireland. As agriculture is one of the focal sectors of EU Delegation to Tanzania for the 11th EDF, and plays a significant role in the pro-poor development initiatives in Tanzania, it was decided that work will be done build a gender strategy for the 11th EDF agriculture sector and parts of infrastructure sector that are relevant to rural development. This work will include inputs in the identification and formulation processes. An in-depth working session with EUD staff, NAO and EU MS will be organized in mid-May.
Other initiatives that the EUD is undertaking include a (re)launching of gender sensitive monitoring instruments, training for the NAO, etc.
