'Girl Friendly' School Spaces in Somalia

Watch this video explaining the importance of providing school spaces and female teachers for girls in Somalia.

Created by the European Union (EU), this video addresses the problem of female education and looks at why many Somalian girls do not go to school.

It then showcases a local project created by the governments of Puntland and Somaliland in partnership with them to counter the low education level among girls. Entitled Girls' Friendly Spaces the project has led to the construction of female-only buildings in 20 schools. They provide a friendly space where female students can have access to books, discuss taboo subjects, advise each other and learn together.

The lack and importance of female teachers is also addressed.
