Book RNSF social protection informal economyOne year ago, from the 6th to the 10th February 2017, the first RNSF workshop was held in Kenya.

It brought together members of the IESF Group (researchers, regional experts, public institutions, EU Delegations as well as CSOs) and, using the “writeshop” methodology, made them work on best practices and case studies on how to support informal worker integration through the implementation of social protection schemes.

The result of the workshop were capitalized in the book “Extending coverage: social protection and the informal economy”, which includes a wide range of best practices and case studies from participants. The book was released and presented during the 2017 edition of the European Development Days in Brussels and is available here.

A second RNSF regional workshop was held in Lima, Peru last December. A new book will follow suit in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Thanks to Francesca and Rania for their feedback!

It was an exciting challenge for the RNSF team too. We would like to thank all book contributors and workshop participants, the facilitator John Belt (Royal Tropical Institute), the editor Paul Mundy (mamud.com) as well as Marco Bombetti and Ekaterina Volkova (video team). We also have a special thank you for Pierre Ghilain (DEVCO).

Looking forward to the next book coming soon!

One year ago I had the pleasure to be nominated by my organization - Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) to represent it as an implementing organization in the RNSF regional workshop. The whole experience was great, I have come to know what social protection and informal economy mean in other countries rather than my country - Egypt. I have came to know where my country has positives or negatives in these fields as compared to other countries. The idea of the workshop - or rather writeshop - in itself was new to me, to be part of a team developing a book to be published and shared worldwide was great. It's been a great learning experience from first to last minute, not only with regards to social protection policies, but also with regards to writing techniques, group discussions, editing text, etc.

I am very proud to have been part of this workshop with all its processes; and to see a case study from my organization and country published as a success story in the book

I participated at the workshop as practitioner/implementer in the field.

The experience has been very inspiring to me and for my NGO, as all the participants (English speaking which are part of the network) shared useful best practices and lessons learned.

High level local Staff members, academic experts on social protection and local government members participated. The experience and know how of each participant was so diversified, therefore the workshop has been a very precious learning experience for all of us.

Each one gave a significant contribution to the chapters of the book on enhancement of Social Protection mechanisms through the project activities implementation.

I am very proud I was part of it!
