Discussion details

The book Extending coverage: Social protection and the informal economy drafted during the RNSF Regional Workshop held last February in Kenya, involved a mixed group of researchers, regional experts, members of civil society organizations, and public officers.

Anoop Kumar Satpathy of the V. V. Giri National Labour Institute and Ramendra Kumar of the Trade Union Coordination Centre (TUCC), two government organisations involved in labour relations in India, contributed to provide the points of view of unions on this issue.

Ramendra is the national secretary of the TUCC and secretary general of the Delhi Shramik Sangathan, a federation of unorganised sector workers. He has worked on projects related to slum development and rehabilitation policy, education and women empowerment.

Anoop is a fellow at the Giri National Labour Institute. This institute performs research, training, education, publication and consultancy on the theme of labour. He has represented the government of India at the International Labour Organization as an informal economy expert, was a member of the Government Committee on Employment Generation, and helped draft the National Employment Policy.

Here are Anoop and Ramendra sharing their impressions on their workshop experience:
