Sweet Potato Knowledge portal
Discussion details
The Sweet Potato Knowledge portal provides a venue for sweetpotato scientists, practitioners, and farmers to share, discuss, and generate new knowledge. Information is also available for the general public to learn more about sweetpotato. The goal is to build a vibrant community of practice, providing easy access to technical and scientific information concerning sweetpotato.
It currently provides access to the 2019 sweet potato catalogue of varieities for sub-saharan Africa, training materials with a training-of-trainer modules in 4 languages, publications, projects, news and events on a wide range of themes related to the sweet potato. More than 900 members, largely from Africa, are divided into four communities of practice on: speedbreeders and genomics; seed systems and crop management; monitoring, learning and evaluation; and marketing, processing and utilization.
The Sweetpotato Knowledge Portal was launched in December 2010 as a platform to harness and improve access to technical, scientific, local and development knowledge on sweetpotato across sub-Saharan Africa by Sweetpotato for Profit and Health Initiative, led by the International Potato Centre (CIP) and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA). A major challenge that all researchers face is getting their findings to the next users (development agents, private sector operators) and also to reach the final endusers (farmers, consumers).
