UN Environment contributes to the ‘DEVCO Environment Week’
Discussion details
Early February 2017, European Commission’s Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO), organised two seminars back-to-back for representatives from EU delegations who travelled to Brussels for their annual meeting as well as relevant European Commission staff based in Brussels. The EU delegations are considered to play a central role in helping fulfil the EU’s policy commitments on environment. One of the aims of the thematic week on Environment was to provide staff in the EU Delegations and in DEVCO with a greater understanding of key environment related issues and recent policy developments.
UN Environment senior managers were invited to speak at these seminars about issues related to environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation.
On 6 February Steven Stone, Chief of Economics and Trade Branch (ETB), UN Environment, gave a presentation on the Environment in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, entitled ‘Making Growth Inclusive and Sustainable: Approach Paths to the 2030 Agenda’. On 8 February Mette Wilkie, Director of UN Environment Ecosystems Division, gave a presentation on 'Healthy Oceans and Coastsfor Sustainable Development', announcing amongst others the new UN Environment #CleanSeas campaign to combat marine litter.
