UNESCO work on Human Capacity Development in Africa
Discussion details
Within the framework of the project, "NEPAD African Centres of Excellence on Water Sciences and Technology (phase II)", UNESCO implements activities to support the establishment of a human capacity development programme in the water sector in Africa. The initiative is funded by the European Union.
A healthy water sector requires finance, infrastructure and human resources in order to function well. In Africa, decades of funding, technological support, training and capacity building have been invested into the water sector, but expected results have not been achieved. Funding and technology are easy enough to target, but addressing human capacity needs and demands from the water sector is much more difficult. The following video explains why, and what UNESCO is doing to address this challenge.
