Discussion details

The current migration crisis in the Mediterranean is a stark reminder of the human cost of conflict. Conflicts have become more difficult to resolve, and the transition for affected countries to greater socio-economic development has become more difficult and costly. This is seen not least in Syria, Libya, South Sudan, the Sahel and Ukraine.

1.5 billion people around the world are affected by such insecurity, and to strengthen the resilience of societies against this fragility we need an international approach that is lead by the affected countries themselves. Fragile states need both formal and informal institutions, local structures and internal capacity that are all anchored in more stable regions. Better governance and enhanced social dynamics play a central role in overcoming the crises we see today.

Working towards this end, ECDPM's Conflict, Security & Resilience Programme would like to share with you an update on their latest work.
