WaterAid: High-level Water and Climate Event May 31st
Discussion details
ATTENTION: WaterAid, in partnership with Coalition Eau and the French Presidency of the EU, will be hosting a high- level online event on Water and Climate this May 31st from 15:00 to 17:00. If you would like to participate, please email us at: anamulioalvarez@wateraid.org This event aims to: - Share knowledge, from a multi-sectoral perspective, on the impacts of climate change on water security - Explore and identify opportunities for action to strengthen resilience to climate change and enable investments in climate-resilient WASH interventions, in a context of broader global challenges (green recovery, human capital development, peace and security, etc.). - Contribute to the preparation of the 2023 UN Water Conference and COP27. This event will bring together: - High-level representatives from the EU institutions, several EU member states and developing countries (opening and closing) - Representatives from the European Commission (DG Climate, Environment and INTPA), and relevant Ministries (highest technical level), such as: climate and environment, water and sanitation, and possibly: industry and energy, health and education, tourism - Relevant civil society organisations, think tanks, representatives from the private sector and academic world. Breakout sessions/Private roundtables: - Roundtable 1: Water-related climate adaptation programmes: What’s already there? What works? What can we do better? - Roundtable 2: An enabling environment for climate-resilient WASH programmes: What the barriers (governance, finance, capacity) are and how to address them? - Roundtable 3: Multi-sectoral approaches for successful water and climate programmes: How can we build on synergies between the water, climate, agriculture, industry and health sectors? Through three different participatory roundtables, we will explore ways of unlocking opportunities for action to strengthen resilience to climate change and enable investments in climate-resilient WASH interventions, in a context of broader global challenges (green recovery, human capital development, peace and security, etc.). In doing so, we will build on lessons from the EU-AU summit, the World Water Forum and help prepare the UN 2023 water conference and COP27.
