Conservation and human development in Africa, Latin America and Asia – the European Union’s vision
EU B4Life Facility
Event details
Description
The European Commission’s Biodiversity for Life Initiative (B4Life) will host a social event to present its ‘Larger than….’ series of inputs for an EU strategic approach to wildlife conservation in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Refreshments will be served during the event, which will include short presentations of the three strategic approaches both published and in development, as well as an opportunity for questions and informal discussion.
The first publication, ‘Larger than Elephants’, covers Africa and was published in 2015. ‘Larger than Tigers’ and ‘Larger than the Amazon’ will be published later in 2016. As their titles suggest, the strategic approach recognises that the problem of wildlife conservation goes well beyond a few emblematic species and advocates a joined-up landscape approach aimed at maintaining healthy, functioning and resilient ecosystems supporting livelihoods and human development.
Mr Humberto Delgado Rosa, Director, Natural Capital, DG Environment, European Commission will introduce the event. There will follow three short presentations by the coordinators of the three publications:
- Conrad Aveling, EU B4Life Facility (managed by Agreco-MDF-ICF) on ‘Larger than Elephants’ strategic approach for Africa (in English).
- Madhou Rao, Wildlife Conservation Society, Asia Programme on ‘Larger than Tigers’ strategic approach for Asia (in English).
- Léon Merlot, EU B4Life Facility (managed by Agreco-MDF-ICF), on ‘Larger than the Amazon’ strategic approach for Latin America (in Spanish).
Questions and an opportunity for informal discussions will conclude the event.
