DeLoG/Learn4dev Joint Learning Event on Fragility, Decentralisation and Local Governance
Event details
Description
The Development Partners Network on Decentralisation and Local Governance (DeLoG) is offering a three day learning event to DeLoG members addressing the topics of Decentralisation and Local Governance (DLG) in the context of fragility. Hosted by VNG International and implemented by The Hague Academy for Local Governance, the event will provide an overview on international thinking and practical experiences regarding the nexus of decentralization, local governance and fragility.
Objectives & Expected Learning Outcomes
The overall objective of this three-day open course on Fragility, Decentralisation and Local Governance is to enable a structured exchange of information and experiences, lessons learnt and good practices on the relation of the three central topics. The event will present an overview of the latest international thinking on the nexus between fragility, decentralisation and local governance (incl. national and intergovernmental aspects of DLG), and will provide participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences, jointly analyse concrete cases and discuss new ideas and approaches to strengthen decentralisation reforms and local governments in fragile contexts. Central questions of the event are:
- What lessons can be learnt from support to decentralisation and local governance in different types of fragile contexts by international development partners?
- When is support to DLG reforms reasonable?
- How can development partners increase the effectiveness of their DLG support within fragile contexts?
Target group
The event is open to development practitioners from DeLoG member organisations, i.e. staff from both headquarters and field offices, as well as staff from partner governments. Participants – preferably working on DLG processes in fragile settings – have to be experienced and knowledgeable on fragility or on DLG, ideally both.
