Description
In the context of the European Development Days (Warsaw, Poland, 15-16 December 2011), the EU and the World Bank will hold a joint panel with the title "Supporting Change through Advocating More Power to Women: Gender Equality and Development" . The panel will take place on 15 December from 16:30 to 17:30.
Speakers:
Ms. Carolina Sanchez: co-author of the WB World Development Report 2012 "Gender Equality and Development" and Lead Economist, The World Bank Group.
Mr. Jean Louis Ville HoU Governance, democracy, Human Rights and gender in Directorate Human and Society Development, Directorate DEVCO.

The two presentations by EU and World Bank (respectively on the World Bank 2012 Development Report on Gender Equality, and on the EU Plan of Action on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment in Development 2010-2015) will be followed by a discussion around three main questions: (i) What are the most persistent forms of gender inequalities in development and why they keep existing? (ii) How to tackle the root causes of inequality?, and (iii) Is the international community proposing the right policies in this area?
A particular emphasis will be given to the importance of women's political participation, voice and agency.
