UNEP organized and convened in Brussels, Belgium from 11 to 13 February 2014, the Inception Meeting of the ACP MEAs Programme on Capacity Building related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEA) in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Countries – Phase II. The 3-days meeting was held at the ACP Secretariat and was attended by 35 participants representing the European Commission (the donor), the ACP Secretariat as the Chair, UNEP as the coordinator and facilitator of the Programme, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and all the implementing partners, including the Regional Hubs, some relevant MEA Secretariats, UNEP MEA Focal Points and some selected NGOs as per the list of participants attached.
The purpose of the meeting was to initiate Phase II of the ACP MEAs project by:
1)Ensuring that the participants had a good overview of the aims and structure of the ACP MEA Programme;
2)Ensuring that the participants were familiar with and shared a common understanding of the approved Contribution Agreement and that they were aware of the next steps to complete the programme work plans and the log frames for implementation of Phase II ;
3)Identifying and clarifying areas of collaboration among regional hubs and Component 2 Partners;
4)Building communication and coordination amongst programme partners for effective and efficient implementation of the Programme.
