Let’s celebrate the International Day of the Tropics!

This international celebration highlights the remarkable diversity of tropical regions while shedding light on the unique obstacles and opportunities these tropical nations encounter. It serves as a platform to assess progress, exchange stories and expertise, and recognize the richness and potential of the region.

Did you know? 

• The Tropics host close to 95% of the world’s mangrove forests by area and 99% of mangrove species. 
• The Tropics account for 40% of the world’s total surface.  
• Biodiversity is greater in the Tropics (approximately 80% of the world’s biodiversity), however, biodiversity loss in also greater in the Tropics 

The tropical region grapples with numerous challenges, including climate change, deforestation, logging, urbanisation, and shifting demographics. Which is why it is important to raise awareness and focus in ways of preventing further degradation and impulsing conservation.
