Seminar on Hot Topics in Sustainable Agriculture and Land
European Commission - DG DEVCO - Unit C1 Rural Development, Food Security, Nutrition
Event details
Description
This seminar, organised by Unit C1 of DG International Cooperation & Development (DG DEVCO), focused on two ‘hot topics’ in this context, namely land governance and sustainable agriculture. It brought together 42 participants: 22 from 20 EU Delegations; 14 from 7 different units in DG DEVCO and DG Research & Innovation (DG RTD); 4 from EU member states (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation – AECID and the German Corporation for International Cooperation – GIZ); and two from the private sector. There were 13 speakers from 7 organisations: the Centre for Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD), France; the FAO; the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), UK; the International Land Coalition (ILC); and DG DEVCO Units C1 and C2. The session on land governance was mainly based on the VGGT and on how to implement them at country level. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the different models of sustainable agriculture: sustainable intensification, agroecology, ecological intensification, and climate smart agriculture.
